Title: Coding Supervisor
Department: Revenue Cycle
Reports To: Coding Manager
Status: Full-time
Position Summary:
The Coding Supervisor will be responsible for organizing and coordinating the daily operations of the coding team in collaboration with the Coding Manager to ensure consistent productivity and efficient operations. The Coding Supervisor monitors productivity and coding accuracy and ensures compliance with coding job competencies. They will also perform direct coding for assigned clients along with direct coding coverage for clients and/or specialties, including professional fees, hospital outpatient, surgical, observation, and inpatient.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
• Five (5) years of medical coding experience required
• 10 years preferred.
• Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
• Current knowledge of hospital outpatient coding and professional coding required
• Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology required
Licenses/Certifications Required:
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required.
General Requirements/Job Duties:

Direct Coding Responsibilities:
- Abstract clinical information
- Translate medical documentation into diagnoses and procedural codes while utilizing currently accepted coding and classification systems
- Sequence codes according to established guidelines
- Ensure accurate, timely, and appropriate assignment of ICD-10, CPT/HCPCS, and modifiers for the purposes of billing, internal and external reporting, and compliance with regulatory and payer guidelines
- Monitor and review client account questions in conjunction with the coding manager
- Interpret changes in the internal and external regulatory environment and stay current with corporate, state, and federal coding updates
Supervisor Responsibilities:
- Assist in oversight of coding specialists, disperse workloads, and monitor coding accuracy and productivity in conjunction with the coding manager
- Monitor and track productivity and billed hours of coding specialists
- Identify patterns of concern and/or compliance to report to the coding manager for any required revisions, updates, and changes in staffing and/or staff workloads
- Assist in monthly rounding in conjunction with the coding manager
- Assist in leading coding team meetings, educational sessions, and department meetings in conjunction with the coding manager
- Mentor staff on an individual basis to evaluate work tasks/processes
- Assist staff in developing efficient and effective processes in conjunction with the coding manager
- Coordinate any required staff training with the coding lead
- Respond to questions from coding lead and staff related to coding applications, rules, regulations, and documentation requirements
- Maintain advanced knowledge of systems and billing requirements
- Serve as an educational resource to educate staff
- Demonstrate competency annually in assigned areas of work
- Ensure all WQ are within the established turnaround times and productivity standards are met
- Perform direct coding, as needed, to ensure client coding turnaround timelines are met
- Assist in monthly and quarterly staff audits, providing feedback, education, and mentoring on an individual basis
- Develop any required follow-up for staff in conjunction with the coding manager

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently
- High degree of analytic abilities
- Proficient with Microsoft Office
- Certified Coder, either Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC)
- Current knowledge of hospital outpatient coding and professional coding required
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology required

• Remote work is expected 100% of the time unless otherwise agreed upon
